BROCKTON — Five people were arrested and four guns were recovered following a shooting that led to a police chase from Brockton to Easton on Thursday, police said.
Brockton police responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Fitzpatrick Circle about 4:16 p.m. Thursday.
“Police pursued an SUV that fled the scene,” Brockton police spokesperson Darren Duarte said. “The pursuit ended in Easton when the SUV crashed, damaging a police cruiser. No one was injured.”
Police say four suspects attempted to escape from the crashed SUV.
Officers captured three of them on foot and recovered three guns at the scene, Duarte said. Easton police caught the fourth suspect, he said. The fifth suspect was arrested by Brockton police on Chatham West Drive, where they recovered a fourth gun, Duarte said.
“I want to extend my deepest gratitude to the officers for their quick thinking and action that saved lives and prevented serious injury,” Brockton Police Chief Brenda Perez said in a written statement. “The bravery and dedication Brockton and Easton Police Officers displayed are commendable.”
Police say they also seized an unspecified amount of fentanyl.
“Excellent police work and cooperation prevented the loss of life and may have averted a future tragedy,” Duarte said.
A 23-year-old Brockton man was charged with trafficking of fentanyl, possession of a large-capacity firearm, illegal possession of a large-capacity feeding device, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace.
A 22-year-old Brockton man was charged with illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of a large-capacity magazine, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace.
An 18-year-old Brockton man was charged with illegal possession of a firearm, illegal possession of a large-capacity magazine, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace.
An 18-year-old Brockton man was charged with failure to stop for police and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
A 16-year-old male from Brockton was charged with illegally carrying a firearm, illegal possession of ammunition and resisting arrest.
At his arraignment in Brockton District Court on Friday, the 18-year-old who was arrested on gun charges was ordered held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for Aug. 30. His $5,000 bail on gun and drug charges stemming from a February 2024 Quincy arrest was revoked at the request of the prosecutor.
The 22- and 23-year-olds were also held pending a dangerousness hearing on Aug. 30.
The 18-year-old arrested on driving charges had his bail set at $5,000 and he’s due back in court on Sept. 17 for a pre-trial hearing.
