9-inning perfect game and more: Vote for the High School Softball … – Enterprise News


Welcome to the spring season.

With winter high school sports now in the rear-view mirror, it’s time to delve into the spring season. We’ll once again have our weekly Player of the Week polls. Votes are unlimited and the polls remain open for one week.

We’ll be posting polls for softball (Monday), baseball (Tuesday), girls lacrosse (Wednesday) and boys lacrosse (Thursday). Feel like you know a deserving candidate? Email Chris McDaniel (cmcdaniel@wickedlocal.com) with potential nominations.

This is where we left off in the winter season.

Let’s get started with some Softball Player of the Week candidates.

Taylor Soderberg + Catherine Toomey, Cohasset: Soderberg’s first varsity home run, a 2-run shot, helped propel Cohasset to an 8-3 victory over Quincy and a 4-0 start to the season. Toomey had a timely home run of her own, belting a 3-run blast in the bottom of the sixth inning to push Cohasset past Carver, 8-6.

Taylor Dolan, Jr., Cardinal Spellman: Dolan struck out 26 batters combined in wins over Ursuline (13-1) and Monomoy (4-0). Against Ursuline, she fanned 12 while allowing 2 hits in a 6-innign win. She went 2-for-2 with a home run. Against Monomoy, she sat down 14 and allowed just an infield hit.

Noey Giardina, Soph., Hanover: Giardina had 3 hits, including a grand slam, and drove in 7 RBIs in a 13-10 win over Whitman-Hanson.

Bella Piekarski, Jr., Plymouth North: Piekarski belted 3 home runs and drove in 5 RBIs in a 15-3 win over Quincy.

Kasie Bailey, Jr., Abington: Bailey, who went 2-for-3, had a walk-off double to lead the Green Wave to a 3-2 win over Braintree.

Shelby Parr, Sr., Archbishop Williams: In a 17-5 win over Boston Latin, Parr struck out 16 batters. In a 12-0 win over Fontbonne in 5 innings, she allowed 2 hits and struck out 8. At the plate, she went 3-for-3 with 3 RBIs.

Lily Welch, Sr., Bridgewater-Raynham: Welch threw a perfect game in 9 innings, as the Trojans defeated Braintree, 1-0. She struck out 17 batters in the victory.

Sofia Blanco, Fr., Marshfield: Blanco tossed a 3-hitter with 6 strikeouts in an 18-0 win over Sandwich. She chipped in 3 hits at the dish.

Kelsey Blanchette, Soph., Lincoln-Sudbury: The sophomore threw all 7 innings, striking out 13 and allowing 5 hits and 2 earned runs while also going 1-for-3 with 3 RBIs at the plate as the Warriors defeated Natick. 

Riley Caulfield, Jr., Millis: This junior tossed a complete game and struck out 14 as the Mohawks beat Ayer-Shirley.  

Ashley Correll, Sr., Advanced Math and Science: The senior threw a no-hitter with 13 strikeouts over 5 innings as the visiting Eagles blanked Douglas, 15-0. Correll also went 3-for-4 with a double, 2 RBIs and 3 runs. 

Emma Wood, Sr., Holliston: Wood threw 5 innings, striking out 14 and yielding 1 earned run and 2 hits as the Panthers defeated Ashland, 13-1.
