Acting Jakarta Governor to Ask Transjakarta to Add Number of Buses – Tempo.co English


TEMPO.CO, JakartaActing Jakarta Governor Heru Budi Hartono is planning to ask Jakarta-owned bus rapid transit service TransJakarta to increase the number of buses to serve more passengers and reduce traffic congestion in the province.

“I will invite the board of directors of TransJakarta (to a meeting) to add (buses),” he said on Tuesday.

However, he did not specify any ideal number for the additional TransJakarta buses.

Apart from TransJakarta, the acting governor will also invite the Jakarta Transportation Office to discuss reducing congestion in Jakarta.

Hartono urged people to use public transportation to reduce traffic congestion in Jakarta.

Based on data from the Jakarta Transportation Office, which was conveyed during a working meeting with Commission B of the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) on January 25, 2023, the number of TransJakarta buses has reached 4,700 units with the passenger capacity reaching up to 1.2 million per day.

TransJakarta is targeting to increase the number of buses to 6,960 units by 2024 so that the passenger capacity can rise to 1.5 million per day.

Meanwhile, the passenger capacity at the Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) is currently at 173 thousand people per day, and it is targeted to rise to 260,000 people per day by 2024, with support from the completion of phase 2A of the MRT development project.

In addition, the passenger capacity of Jakarta Light Rail Transit (LRT) has currently reached 18,000 per day and is targeted to reach 145,000 passengers per day by 2024.

The central government is also planning to begin the operation of the LRT for Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, and Bekasi (Jabodebek), or Greater Jakarta, on July 2023, with a target capacity of 730,000 passengers per day.

The Jakarta Transportation Office has reported that the number of public transport passengers using MRT, LRT, Commuter Line (KRL), TransJakarta, and regular buses has reached a total of 2.6 million people per day.
