Malala lilivid over male entitlement

You do not want to mess with Malala Yousafzai. Not just because she won the Nobel Peace Prize when she was 17. Or that in 2012, she and two other girls were shot by members of Taliban who were against her advocacy for girls’ education in the Pakistani province of Swat, and that incident only redoubled her determination.

You should not mess with Malala Yousafzai because, as a 25-year-old wife, she’s one helluva lord of the castle. A few days ago, the children’s and women’s rights activist posted on Twitter news of a dastardly violation: dirty socks on the sofa. On confirming that the pair was her husband Asser Malik‘s, Malala was reportedly lilivid after he told her that she could ‘put them away’.

And put them away she did – into the garbage bin. Her husband, as husbands are wont to do, put the question out there: what would you have done if you found a pair of dirty socks on the sofa? An overwhelming number did not choose the ‘Put them in laundry’ option and went with the bin.

Another victory against male entitlement struck home by Malala. Now, if this was Greta Thunberg – 5 years junior to Malala – would this have ended with a stern message of dumping dirty socks in the dustbin? Or would it have provoked the Wrath of Greta and a tirade against the evil washing machine, in a world where water is growing scarcer, etc?
