Wrexham captain Ben Tozer has hit back at Billy Sharp after the Sheffield United striker gave a fiery interview and taunted the Welsh club’s supporters following Tuesday’s FA Cup fourth-round replay.

Sharp and Sander Berge netted quick-fire goals in injury time to secure a 3-1 victory for the Championship side, who will now take on Tottenham in the next round.

Afterwards, Sharp was seen mocking Wrexham’s travelling supporters before he gave a jaw-dropping interview in which he blasted the lower league team and accused them of ‘disrespect’.

The veteran striker also aimed a few barbs at the players in the tunnel and Tozer – who skippers the side owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney – was very disappointed with the way Sharp behaved.

‘I feel like a bit of a dampener has been put on the game with the way they’ve acted in the tunnel, if I’m being honest with you,’ said Tozer at a post-match press conference.

‘They showed a real lack of humility, but listen that’s the way they want to be. I feel like if we’d won that game we’d have shown a lot more humility and respect.’

On Sharp’s comments in particular, he continued: ‘He should show more respect to us, and telling us to “Shove it!” on the documentary, I feel like it’s just fabricated stuff in his head to make it acceptable for himself if I’m honest with you.

‘I said to him as well, face to face, he should show a bit more humility. We’ve congratulated them on the win, we haven’t come in sulking, we’ve walked down the tunnel as normal.

‘It’s just a shame really that that’s the way it ended.

‘Apparently they were tweeting tickets for the Tottenham game before this game was played, and you had people like Oli McBurnie I believe in the press saying stuff.

‘I don’t believe any of our lads have said anything disrespectful, we certainly approached the game properly, but if that’s the way they want to be then that’s the way they want to be.’

Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson also took umbrage with Sharp, saying: ‘I was a bit disappointed with Billy at the end, some of the things he was shouting at the end in the tunnel.

‘He’s a fantastic player but I thought he was disrespectful at the end. I think the way their players, fans and staff celebrated was a mark of how tough we made it but my message to Billy is: You’re better than that. My players are humble and a great credit to the football club.’
