Chennai: Police on Saturday arrested two people near Trichy for allegedly kidnapping a trader from Koyambedu.
Police said the accused abducted the victim while waiting for a cab. After robbing him of phones worth 10 lahk and a gold chain, they pushed him onto the road near Vandalur.
The victim, Mohammed Affan of Nagapattinam, works at a shop in Trichy. His employer, Mohammed Askar, 27, had given a package containing nine iPhones to deliver in Triplicane. Affan arrived in Chennai by bus on Thursday and was waiting for a cab in Koyambedu. A car stopped near him, and its occupants forcefully pulled Affan inside. Police said the men attacked Affan inside the vehicle and pushed him out of the car along GST road after stealing the valuables. After this, Affan reached the Chennai Mofussil Bus Terminus (CMBT) and filed a complaint with the police.
Police, with the help of CCTV footage, traced the suspects. On Friday, a team of police arrested A Ashrafudeen, 38, of Thiruvarumbur and G Vasanthakumar, 38, of Thuvakkudi in Trichy. The accused were brought to the city, produced before a magistrate, and remanded into custody. Further investigations are on and police are in look out for other accused.
