Real Madrid may land Kylian Mbappe this summer as Frenchman drops PSG bombshell

Kylian Mbappe could be destined to leave PSG this summer after informing the club he doesn’t intend to extend his contract, according to reports. The colossal decision after talks over a new deal in Paris broke down is bound to leave Real Madrid on red alert after an unsuccessful pursuit last year.

Mbappe ended speculation about a free transfer away from PSG ahead of this season by penning a record-breaking three-year contract.

But according to the L’Equipe, the 24-year-old has told the Ligue 1 champions that he won’t trigger his option of a further year until 2025.

Therefore, he would be free to leave for nothing at the end of next season if he doesn’t depart in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Despite constructive talks over a contract renewal, Mbappe reportedly made his decision clear with an official letter delivered to the Parisiens on Monday.

The report claims PSG have no plans to lose him for free, meaning they will look to sell him in the coming months on the back of his bombshell announcement.

It will likely spark imminent strong links to Real after Los Blancos failed to secure his services after a prolonged saga last year.

However, Real are set to splash north of £100million to sign Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham, beating Premier League competition to his signature.

Such an expense could pour doubt over the La Liga giants’ ability to recruit Mbappe in the same transfer window, given he would demand a similarly sizeable fee.

The newly-appointed French captain could stay at PSG beyond the summer before reaching a pre-contract agreement with Real in January 2024 if his heart is set on a Bernabeu switch.

A move to England’s top flight could appeal if he is destined to depart ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.

Given PSG’s Qatari connections, Manchester United could be an exciting proposition if Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani completes a takeover.

Rivals Manchester City have just won the treble and aren’t short of cash. Pep Guardiola could look to make the fantasy partnership of Mbappe and Erling Haaland a reality.

Liverpool have also been strongly linked to the explosive forward in the past, but the Reds’ failure to qualify for the Champions League will have ended hopes for now.
