‘Our worst 45 minutes on the ball’ – Ange Postecoglou fumes despite Tottenham going top of the Premier League

Ange Postecoglou admits he ‘wasn’t happy’ with Tottenham’s performance in their 2-0 win over Fulham on Monday night.

Son Heung-min and James Maddison were on the scoresheet at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to send Spurs back to the top of the Premier League.

They are now two points clear of Manchester City and Arsenal, with Postecoglou setting a record for the most points scored by a manager in his first nine Premier League games (23).

But this news has hardly cheered up the Aussie, who was less than satisfied by what he saw from his team against the Cottagers, despite them looking pretty comfortable throughout the game.

‘It was a good result. Fulham are a tough team to break down,’ he told Sky Sports post-match.

‘In the first-half he handled it pretty well, nice and calm. With the chance we had, probably should have had a second and a third.

‘The second half wasn’t great for us. We didn’t play anywhere near the levels we can with the ball. Without the ball we were still excellent in terms of our pressing.

‘With the ball we were really, really wasteful. We’ve been really consistent this year. That’s probably the worst 45 minutes with the ball we’ve had.

‘We got a little bit wasteful, static, we weren’t moving as much as we were in the first-half. You’ve always got to respect the game.

‘If you’re off it just a little bit, I’ve been around long enough to know it will drag you down pretty quickly. We didn’t stay true to the football we want to play and took some liberties with the game which I wasn’t happy with.

‘People have mentioned it [the record] to me. I don’t take stock. After the second half, there is too much work to do.

‘Pleased with the start we have had, credit to all involved. We are where we are because we deserve to be, but plenty of reminders that there is work to do.’

Spurs remain unbeaten in the league under Postecoglou and can extend their lead further on Friday night when they travel to Crystal Palace for another London derby.
