HERO veterans will get £10 million to help them with their mental health, Jeremy Hunt will announce this week.

The Chancellor will pay tribute to troops who risk their lives to keep us safe.

And he will pledge more cash to help veterans get help with health and housing in Wednesday’s Autumn Statement.

A Treasury source said: “The heroes who risked their lives for our freedom deserve our support.

“We know homelessness and mental health issues are prevalent so the Chancellor wants to target this money to where it can make a real difference.”

Veterans are at higher risk of depression and suicide, various studies have suggested.

Many struggle to integrate back into society when they leave the Armed Forces.

More than 10,000 troops have been discharged because of mental health issues in the past 20 years.

The highly-anticipated Autumn Statement will take place in the Commons on Wednesday.

The speech usually takes place around midday.
