Despite the past few chips not performing as expected, Samsung has decided to stick with in-house SoC development. The Exynos 2400 is confirmed to debut alongside the Galaxy S24 (US$899 on Amazon). Initial benchmarks show it to lag behind the competition, namely the MediaTek Dimensity 9300 and Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. That situation may change or may not change next year, but one thing certainly will, and that’s the chip’s name.
X leaker @OreXDA, who accurately predicted the Exynos 2400’s existence at a time when it was disputed, says Samsung plans to drop the Exynos brand altogether. Future Samsung chips will instead be called “Dream Chip”. This applies to flagship SoC and mid-rangers. Exactly how Samsung plans to differentiate between the different products is still a mystery.
This isn’t the first time the phrase “Dream Chip” has shown up on Samsung-related leaks. Early reports pegged it to be the 2025-bound Exynos 2400 successor, aka the Exynos 2500. It is a 10-core chip that will supposedly be manufactured on Samsung’s 3 GAP node, potentially giving it an edge over the FinFET-based Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 and Dimensity 9400.
