THE number of gay children being pushed to transition is at “almost epidemic” levels, Kemi Badenoch said yesterday.
The Equalities Minister also insisted during a fiery Commons debate that “no child is born in the wrong body”.
Instead, she said they were being exploited by those who did not understand their problems.
She told MPs: “We are seeing, almost an epidemic of young gay children being told that they are trans and being put on a medical pathway for irreversible decisions and they are regretting it.”
Ms Badenoch also said: “No child is born in the wrong body and no child should be put on a medical pathway towards irreversible medical transition.”
Earlier, Education Secretary Gillian Keegan said upcoming guidance for schools would not ban pupils from identifying as the opposite gender.
Sources have said there will be a “presumption against” kids socially transitioning.
But Ms Keegan said a flat-out ban being pushed by some Tory MPs would require “a change in the equalities law”.
Conservative MP Nick Fletcher said he “can’t go to bed at night knowing a Secretary of State” is allowing current trans situation in schools.
He also slammed material being taught in schools and gave an example that said it is a “myth” the world is “divided into men and women”.
