GOAL! Blackburn 3-2 Cambridge (Szmodics 45+3)
Sammy Szmodics completes his first senior hat-trick to give Blackburn the lead against Cambridge United in a thrilling encounter at Ewood Park.

William Osula scorers his second of the day, firing home on the follow up after Gillingham goalkeeper Jake Turner had made a save.
GOALS! QPR 2-0 Bournemouth
Sinclair Armstrong scorches down the wing, cuts inside and curls a shot past Mark Travers. A minute later, Lyndon Dykes doubles QPR’s lead with a shot that takes a vicious deflection past the Bournemouth goalkeeper.
Newport County 0-0 Eastleigh: National League side Eastleigh have been reduced to 10 men at Rodney Parade after losing George Langston to a straight red card.
GOAL! Blackburn 2-2 Cambridge United (Szmodics 37)
Sammy Szmodics scores his second goal of the afternoon to restore parity for Blackburn Rovers again. He’s never scored a senior hat-trick but will fancy his chances today.
Meanwhile in League Two: Karl Robinson is taking charge of his first Salford City match this afternoon and has been banished from the touchline. He’s been shown a straight red card for picking up the ball after it rolled out of play, preventing a Forest Green player from taking a quick throw-in.
GOAL! Watford 0-1 Chesterfield (Quigly 28)
With Maidstone already through to the fourth round, their fellow non-league side Chesterfield seem eager to join them. The National League table-toppers lead Championship side Watford courtesy of a Joe Quigly header from just a few yards out.
GOAL! Gillingham 0-1 Sheffield United (Osula 14)
In other news of goals I haven’t got around to reporting yet, Stephen Clemence’s Gillingham side are trailing to a William Osula goal at the Priestfield Stadium.
GOAL! Norwich City 1-1 Bristol Rovers (Ward 17)
Apologies Bristol Rovers fans! I’ve been trying to bring you news of your equaliser for some time now, but the goals keep flying in elsewhere. Grant Ward has restored parity for you.
GOAL! Blackburn Rovers 1-2 Cambridge United (Kaikai 26)
Cambridge waste no time in retaking the lead, with Sullay Kaikai putting them back in front just a couple of minutes after Blackburn had equalised.
GOAL! Blackburn 1-1 Cambridge United (Szmodics 23)
The leading scorer in the Championship with 16 goals, Sam Szmodics equalises for the hosts at Ewood Park, stroking the ball home from 12 yards.

Luke Cundle has put Plymouth ahead at Home Park, scoring on the follow-up after Sutton goalkeeper Dean Bouzanis had pulled off an impressive save.
GOAL! Hull City 0-1 Birmingham (Jutkiewicz 18)
Lukas Jutkiewicz steers a header home from 12 yards to give Birmingham the lead at Hull.
GOAL! Stoke City 1-0 Brighton (Van Hecke 16og)
Stoke City haver taken the lead against their visitors from the Premier League and it’s a gift from Jan Paul van Hecke, who gets the ball caught under his feet before turning a cross into his own net.
Match report: Sunderland 0-3 Newcastle United
Newcastle United made short work of a Sunderland side whose players looked a little overwhelmed by the occasion of the first Tyne-Wear derby since 2016. Here’s Louis Taylor’s match report from the Stadium of Light …
GOAL! Norwich City 1-0 Bristol Rovers (Barnes 12)
Ashley Barnes puts the Canaries ahead after 12 minutes at Carrow Road. Did you know he played for Norwich City? It’s come as news to me, I must confess.
GOAL! Blackburn Rovers 0-1 Cambridge (Lankester 6)
Guardian Football Weekly presenter Max Rushden will be beside himself with excitement upon seeing Jack Lankester put his beloved Cambridge United ahead against Blackburn Rovers with a sweet left-footed effort into the top corner after the home side failed to clear a free-kick.
GOAL! Southampton 1-0 Walsall (Fraser 6)
Southampton boss Russell Martin has made nine changes today but his second string side are ahead. Ryan Fraser controls a cross from Taylor Harwood-Bellis and fires his side ahead.
QPR 0-0 Bournemouth: Getting a rare start for Bournemouth with Dominic Solanke having been given the day off, Kieffer Moore has a header cleared off the line by QPR defender Morgan Fox after getting on the end of a cross to the far post from Marcus Tavernier.
Our three o’clock kick-offs are under way. Who will join Fulham, Spurs, Ipswich, Coventry, Maidstone United, Leicester and Newcastle in the fourth round?
Dan Burn speaks: “It was a special win,” says the Newcastle defender and lifelong fan in an interview with ITV. “I think there was a lot of build up to the game so to come through with a win and a clean sheet is great.
“It has been a long time since we’ve played this type of game. If you had asked the fans whether they would rather advance in the Champions League or beat Sunderland, I think they would pick beating Sunderland. It was a great day and the crowd really made it special.”

Full time: Sunderland 0-3 Newcastle United
Newcastle have avoided embarrassment against their bitter rivals from the division below and weren’t made to work particularly hard for their win. Sunderland barely threatened in a game Eddie Howe’s side have dominated from the first whistle.
GOAL! Sunderland 0-3 Newcastle (Isak 90 pen)
Having scored an own goal in the first half, Dan Ballard rounds off a miserable afternoon by bringing down Anthony Gordon to concede a penalty. Alexander Isak scores his second of the afternoon from the spot. In fairness to Ballard, he’s been one of the better players in a Sunderland side that has been completely overwhelmed by the neighbours.
Full time: Coventry City 6-2 Oxford United
Mark Robins’ men have won by a tennis score, swatting aside their visitors from League One.
Full time: Millwall 2-3 Leicester City
Despite their late rally, Millwall are out. Leicester have beaten them by the odd goal in five at the Den.
Full time: Maidstone 1-0 Stevenage
Sound the giantkiller klaxon! The lowest ranked team left in the competition are through to the fourth round. National League South side Madistone have seen off their League One opponents Stevenage courtesy of a spot-kick from Sam Corne. Hats off to them!
Full time: AFC Wimbledon 1-3 Ipswich Town
Kieran McKenna’s impressive Championship side advance to the fourth round with a two-goal victory over their hosts from League Two at Plough Lane.
AFC Wimbledon 1-3 Ipswich Town: A Jack Taylor goal on 90 minutes gives Ipswich some wriggle room in South London.
Coventry City 6-2 Oxford United: Matt Godden scores his second goal in five minutes to hammer yet another sky blue nail into the lid of Oxford United’s FA Cup coffin.
Millwall 2-3 Leicester City: There’s late drama at the Den, where Zian Flemming has thrown Millwall a lifeline with his strike on 86 minutes. Can Leicester City close this one out?
Coventry City 5-2 Oxford United: Matt Godden adds a fifth for the Championship side to put the game well beyond Oxford United.
Coventry City 4-2 Oxford United: Coventry looks set fair to advance to the fourth round of a competition they famously won in 1987 with just six minutes of their game against Oxford United remaining. Joel Latibeaudaire, Ben Sheaf, Kasey Palmer and Callum O’Hare have got the goals for the home side, while Mark Harris and Tyler Goodhram have chipped in for the visitors from League One.
AFC Wimbledon 1-2 Ipswich Town: With 10 minutes remaining at the Cherry Red Records Stadium, a Josh Davison own goal and Axel Tuanzebe strike either side of Jake Reeves’ penalty mean Championship side Ipswich are on course to avoid embarrassment against the 1988 FA Cup winners. Wimbledon are down to 10 men, having lost Harry Pell to a red card just before the hour mark.
Maidstone 1-0 Stevenage: The lowest ranked side left in the competition, Maidstone would have hoped for more glamourous third round opposition than League One outfit Stevenage but they currently lead their more exalted opposition courtesy of a Sam Corne penalty that was scored just before half-time. There are 18 minutes left to play at the Gallagher Stadium in Kent.
Millwall 1-3 Leicester City: Leicester have restored their two-goal cushion ast the Den, where Tom Cannon has scored in the 61st minute. It’s the 21-year-old’s third goal in two games.
Sunderland 0-2 Newcastle: The second half has just kicked off at the Stadium of Light, where Sunderland have been completely outclassed but remain in the game at just … oh dear.
Almost straight from kick-off, an awful Pierre Ekwah mistake gifts possession to Miguel Almiron in the Sunderland penalty area. He pulls the ball into the path of Alexander Isak, who rifles it past Anthony Patterson just 32 seconds after the restart. Follow the action with Rob Smyth …
Millwall 1-2 Leicester City: Duncan Watmore has pulled a goal back for Millwall against Leicester in their game at the Den. The runaway Championship table-toppers had been two up through goals from Cesare Casadei and Ricardo Pereira.
VAR: Video Assistant Referee technology is being used during this weekend’s FA Cup third round … but only up to a point. Its deployment is restricted to matches being played in Premier League grounds, which means the majority of games will not be scrutinised by the curtain-twitchers at Stockley Park.

FA Cup third round: Saturday clockwatch
With 19 third round matches scheduled today, the pick of them got under way earlier this afternoon at the Stadium of Light, where the first Tyne-Wear derby since 2016 is being played at a ferocious lick in front of a baying capacity crowd including 6,000 Geordies. Newcastle are having the better of proceedings and lead courtesy of a Dan Ballard own goal in a game that is one of five early kick-offs. We’ll have 10 more to focus on at three o’clock.
Maidstone, Eastleigh, Chesterfield and Aldershot Town are the only remaining non-League representatives in the competition and three of them are in action this afternoon. From the National League South, Maidstone are currently a goal up against Stevenage, while Eastleigh from the division above travel to Newport County. Making up the trio, National League leaders Chesterfield will fancy their chances away at Watford. On a day full of potential upsets, we’ll bring you news of all the goals as they go in, all the major talking points and plenty of post-match reaction.
