Enterprise claims 4 individual titles at Girls State Wrestling Championship – WTVY

ALABASTER, Ala. (WTVY) – Success has really became the name of the game for the Enterprise High School girls wrestling program, and that was no different on Friday.

The Lady Cats made their appearance at the 2024 AHSAA State Championship a memorable one for the program, with four young ladies earning themselves crowns in their respective weight classes and the team finished third overall in points among all girls programs in the state.

Junior Evelyn Holmes-Smith (37-0) capped off an impressive undefeated campaign on the year by winning the 120 weight class on Friday, defeating Thompson sophomore Lynleigh Weltzin (34-4) by way of a fall at the 1:36 mark.

In the 126 weight class, it was sophomore Taimane Benemerito (34-3) scoring the state title against Bob Jones senior Carly Thomas (21-1), handing the Lady Patriot her one and only loss on the year in a 4-2 decision in the finals matchup. Benemerito’s performance also earned her Best Match honors at the 2024 State Championship.

The top prize in the 152 weight class went to another undefeated Lady Wildcat, sophomore Mackenzie Schultz (32-0), as she bested Chelsea 8th grader Heather Butler (28-3) by a fall decision at the 0:34 mark.

Junior Mallory Ladd (32-1) would be the fourth individual state title holder for Enterprise, defeating Pinson Valley senior Aniyah Griffin (25-2) in a 5-4 decision to finish atop the 185 weight class.

As a team, the Lady Cats finished with 160 total points, earning themselves an overall 3rd place finish among all teams appearing at the 2024 State Championship meet.

Two other Wiregrass programs also earned top 50 finishes at the state meet, with Northside Methodist finishing 34th as a team with 29 points thanks in large part to two 6th place finishes by freshman Teegan Robinson (29-12) in the 152 weight class and junior Josie Faison (18-11) in the 165 weight class.

Dothan would finish tied for 44th as a team with 17 points, primarily led by junior Olivia Piasecki’s (13-3) 6th place finish in the 132 weight class.
