A SAVVY couple swapped a wet weekend in London for a Canaries break — costing £100 less.
Bobbi Hadgraft, 23, and her fiancé Will Huyton, 21, had been planning a visit to the capital.
But they found it would cost at least twice as much as a Lanzarote trip.
Will, a journalist from Hull, said their flights were £40 each return and accommodation £50.
Taking the train to London would have been £80 each return.
Will said: “When we added up the cost of going to Winter Wonderland, the travel and the hotel, it was £100 cheaper to go to Lanzarote.
“And it was 20C warmer.”
The pair flew from Manchester airport at 6am on Saturday, December 9, landed in Lanzarote at 10am and caught their return flight at 11pm on the Sunday.
Bobbi explained: “We sunbathed, went swimming in the sea, had a brilliant bar crawl and some amazing food.
“It was fantastic – I even came back with a tan.
“We got into doing cheap trips when we saw people getting flights for under a tenner online.
“Instead of spending a fortune for a pint in London, we could get a large beer in the sun for £1.30 in happy hour.
“Some might say it’s a long journey but with rail disruption in the UK it would’ve taken us longer to get to London and back that weekend.
“It’s worth the early wakeup to spend your weekend on a beach, rather than under an umbrella.”
