BEVs with the Longest Driving RangeCar and Driver

The world is changing, and while gasoline-powered vehicles will continue to roam the streets for decades to come, federal emissions targets and eco-friendly consumers are pushing auto manufacturers to innovate. The result is a rapidly growing number of new electric vehicles. And with new technology comes new designs, new features, and new challenges. So while EVs might be saddled by slow charge times, lower range, and higher curb weights than their gas counterparts, they also deliver instant torque and, in some cases, mind-boggling power. Though our love of the visceral, noise-producing cars of today is not likely to fade, the variety of new EVs brought to market makes it easy to get excited about tomorrow.

3. 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6: 361 Miles

New for the 2023 model year, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 sedan has a distinctive swept-back shape. With a choice of two battery packs and rear- or all-wheel drive, the Ioniq 6 allows you to prioritize range, price, and performance. It’s the rear-wheel-drive SE trim, fitted with the larger 77.4-kWh battery, that provides an EPA-rated 361 miles of range.

4. 2023 Tesla Model 3: 358 Miles

The Tesla Model 3 sedan is worth a serious look if you want to maximize driving range while minimizing your EV expenditure. The Model 3 Long Range has an EPA-rated range of 358 miles. Granted, the base Model 3 is the cheapest way to get into one of these EVs, though its EPA-estimated range is just 272 miles.

6. 2023 Tesla Model X: 348 Miles

The Model X’s ample dimensions and three rows of seating might fool you into thinking it’s merely a sedate EV mashup of crossover-meets-minivan. You shouldn’t. Tesla claims the X’s entry-level powertrain zips it to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds. (This drops to a supercar-rivaling 2.5 seconds in the tri-motor Plaid form.) While we’ve yet to verify these acceleration numbers, the EPA rates the base Model X as having a driving range of 348 miles (and the ballistic Plaid at 333 miles).

  • C/D rating: 6.5/10

7. 2023 Tesla Model Y: 330 Miles

Tesla’s Model Y shares most of its DNA with the Model 3, creating steep competition in the crossover space. During testing, we found that the stopwatch validated our butt dyno as both the Long Range and Performance models hit 60 mph in 4.4 and 3.6 seconds, respectively. As its name suggests, the Long Range is the one that’ll net you up to 330 miles of EPA-rated range. Tesla also offers an entry-level Model Y with even less range, but a more affordable starting price.

8. 2023 GMC Hummer EV Pickup: 329 Miles

The GMC Hummer EV pickup is an exercise in how to make an eco-friendly EV as brash and bold as its gas-guzzling ancestors. Tipping the scales at more than 9,000 pounds, the Hummer EV is motivated by three electric motors tied into GM’s giant 212.7-kWh Ultium battery pack. In total, this all-wheel drive behemoth has 1000 horsepower and needs a scant 3.3 seconds to accelerate to 60 mph. To its credit, the Hummer EV’s max range of 329 miles puts it solidly among the ten electric vehicles listed here. That said, this is a GMC-estimated figure, as the Hummer’s heft means the EPA excuses GMC from publishing efficiency figures for this beast.

9. 2023 Rivian R1T: 328 Miles

Rivian has a new Max Pack coming later this model year for both its R1T electric pickup and R1S SUV. This is expected to deliver anywhere from 390 to 400 miles of range. The catch is the official EPA-estimated figures are still pending for each model equipped with this battery. This means the R1T with the Large pack and fitted with 21-inch wheels remains, at least for now, the longest-running Rivian with its range of 328 miles. Having earned a spot on our 10Best Trucks and SUVs list for 2023, it’s no secret we’re fans of this rapid, refined, and multi-talented electric truck.

10. 2023 BMW iX: 324 Miles

A pair of electric motors with a combined output of 516 horsepower keeps the entry-level BMW iX xDrive50 moving. Range varies based on wheel size, and when using the standard 20-inch wheels, the iX xDrive50 is rated at an EPA-estimated 324 miles—the longest range afforded by this EV.
