Timberwolves at Lakers picks and predictions
Prediction
Timberwolves 122, Lakers 113
Moneyline
Both previous meetings were wins by the Timberwolves in Minnesota, a 118-111 win Dec. 21 and a 108-106 victory Dec. 30.
The Lakers been very good at home this season. They are 22-11 at home but 3-2 during this homestand.
The Timberwolves are a good road team at 21-12 and have won 5 of their last 6 away games. Thursday’s loss snapped a 5-game road winning streak.
It took every one of Russell’s 44 points for the Lakers to beat the Bucks Thursday. James did not play and Davis’ shoulder was clearly an issue late in the game.
You can’t expect another performance like that from Russell, and the Timberwolves are 9-4 in their last 13 games.
The Timberwolves have not lost consecutive games on a road trip this season.
BET TIMBERWOLVES (-105).
Against the spread
The Lakers covered the spread in both losses to the Wolves this season but were the underdogs.
Minnesota is 17-16 ATS on the road this season, compared to the Lakers’ 15-18 ATS home mark.
It has been 9 games since the Lakers covered the spread in consecutive games.
But since we already like the Wolves for the outright win, as they just do not lose consecutive games during road trips, those odds are slightly better than the -115 to cover the 1.5-point spread.
PASS.
Over/Under
The last meeting between these teams had 229 total points.
The Lakers have allowed over 120 points in 4 of their last 5 games. Nine of their last 10 games have had totals higher than 221 points.
Only 3 of Minnesota’s last 10 games have surpassed the projection for Sunday, but 2 of the last 3 have.
BET OVER 221.5 (-110).
