The Iranian president who is on a three-day visit to Pakistan decided to skip any mention of the Kashmir issue during his statement to the media following the meeting with Sharif.
Raisi referred to the situation in Gaza in his statement.
Raisi reached Pakistan on Monday for the visit during which he is scheduled to meet the senior leadership of the country including the army chief. This is the first time any head of state has visited Pakistan following the general elections on February 8.
It may be recalled that Iran-Pakistan ties were marked by tensions in January following terror attacks in Iran from within Pakistan. Islamabad had launched retaliatory strikes against Iran after recalling its envoy from Tehran and suspended all engagements for a few weeks.
Earlier Iran launched a missile attack inside Pakistan’s Balochistan province, targeting what it described as bases of terrorist group Jaish al-Adl. Reacting to the incident, India had stated that it understood actions that countries take in their self-defence. India also came out in support of Iran following the terror attack. And after the recent missile launches by Iran against Israel, New Delhi took a balanced approach.
