Sky confirms game-changing free upgrade and it's coming to your TV soon

Sky subscribers who currently pay for full Sky Sports access are about to be treated to a massive free content boost. The television and broadband provider has just confirmed the launch of Sky Sports+. It will arrive on screens this August and promises to offer a swathe of extra things to watch including four times as many matches from the English Football League (EFL).

Sky is even saying that all 72 teams from the EFL will feature on the service over 20 times a season – that’s great news for fans following clubs that haven’t yet made it to the dizzy heights of the Premier League.

To make sure you never miss any of the action, Sky is also boasting that it has the capability to stream 100 live events at the same time. That should make sure even the busiest days of sport get fully broadcast across the UK.

Live pause and rewind will be available on all concurrent streams, and the ‘Recap’ feature currently available for Premier League and Championship games will also be made available for EFL games shown on the Sky Sports+ linear channel.

It’s not just about football with Sky Sports+ also featuring tennis Tours and men’s Super League with 50 percent more things to watch than before.

Along with live action, Sky Sports+ will also give exclusive users access to Sky’s sporting documentaries. This includes the much-anticipated Darts documentary which will be shown to Sports+ users two weeks before anyone else.

Sky Sports+ will be available across all of Sky’s army devices including Sky Q, Sky Glass, Sky Stream plus its NOW streaming service will also see the boost as well.

Sky’s Sports app will also be upgraded to include full access to Sports+ allowing fans to watch all the action on the move.

Speaking about the update, Jonathan Licht, Managing Director at Sky Sports, said: “Exceptional sport, covered in an innovative and compelling way, has been a big part of our history. With the introduction of Sky Sports+, we are now able to offer sport fans more choice and an even better experience when watching the live action, at no extra cost.

“For the first time, we will broadcast every game live from across the EFL on the opening weekend. It’s going to be a huge moment for football fans up and down the country and is a fitting way to kick off our ground-breaking new partnership with the EFL. And this is just the beginning; Sky Sports+ unlocks the potential for us to keep evolving and finding new ways to deliver brilliant sport to our customers.”

As we mentioned earlier, you will need a full Sky Sports subscription to gain access but as along as you already pay for this the upgrade will be free.

Watch out for more news this summer.
