The Hilldales, a five-piece rock ’n’ roll band that has toured the Midwest, is lined up to perform Friday, July 12 at Sounds of Spirit Lake in Menahga.
The free concert is set on the lakeshore next to the public beach, with the Menahga School to serve as a rain venue. Music starts at 7 p.m.
According to a media release, the Hilldales feature a powerhouse vocalist, Sarah Munson, who has been compared to Janis Joplin, Brandi Carlisle and soul singers from the 1960s. Guitarists Justin Ness (who also builds guitars out of a shop in Fergus Falls) and Dan Olson dabble in a nostalgic, late-60s/early-70s rock vibe. The rhythm section features Megan Rein on bass and Dan Whitehead on drums.
The band’s set includes well-known covers from the 60s and 70s, as well as originals influenced by the era, what the release describes as “feel-good, fun-loving rock and roll.”
Remaining concerts in Menahga’s music festival include the Shaun Johnson Big Band Experience on July 19 and Monroe Crossing on July 26. For more information, visit

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
