Nottingham Forest star Danilo has posted a positive update after suffering a hideous-looking injury during the 1-1 draw with Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.

Just seven minutes into the game at the City Ground Danilo went up for an aerial challenge with Antoine Semenyo and landed very awkwardly.

It was clear immediately that something terrible had happened, with the nearby players reacting with shock and medical staff being beckoned onto the pitch.

Kris Boyd was covering the match on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday and said: ‘It’s disgusting. He’s come back down and there’s no other way to say it, it looked like the bottom of his leg’s snapped.

‘It’s horrible. Absolutely horrible. There was nothing in the challenge, he jumps for the ball, comes down and it was disgusting.’

The 23-year-old was taken to hospital but is now at home and sounds in good spirits, posting an update on social media, which read: ‘Hey guys, I’m just stopping by to say that I’m fine, thank God, and I’m already home.

‘We’ll be back soon. Thank you for all the messages of support.’

Speaking after the match, Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo said: ‘We know he’s gone to hospital. We know that it’s serious.

‘It was a tough moment for everybody here. First of all, Danilo is a very special person, the way he works with a smile on his face.

‘Then we’re going to miss his qualities, his talent and what he gives to the team. We wish him well and hope for the best. Let’s hope it’s not too much time.

‘You could see the reactions of the players, because we all love Danilo. First of all in their minds and my mind, we don’t think about football, we just hope it’s nothing serious.

‘I think the team reacted well, we switched on, Yatesy came on and did well in the game. We keep moving forward.’

Striker Chris Wood, who scored Forest’s goal on Saturday, added: ‘It’s not a nice one when a team-mate goes down on the pitch like that. He is a great guy and loved by everyone. we will be here to support him in any way possible for him and the family and I know he will come back stronger.

‘As footballers you just want to play a nice game and not have to worry about anything like that. It is not nice to see and we will support him.

‘Whatever it is, he will come back stronger and come back a better man.’
