A non-league football fan has apologised after collapsing at a game and requiring a trip to hospital after having ’10 pints in two hours’.
The Hendon supporter, named Felix, made the journey to Billericay Town on Saturday hoping to see his team continue their play-off push in the Isthmian League Premier Division, the seventh tier of English football.
The match kicked off at 3pm but the fan in question ‘can’t remember anything past 2pm’ after going on a shocking binge before the game.
He says he consumed ’10 or 11 pints in the space of two hours’, all on an empty stomach, resulting in a trip to A&E in the back of an ambulance.
After drinking ‘way too much’, the supporter ‘ended up unconscious’ after taking a fall and needed medical attention from stewards at the ground and then an ambulance crew.
Felix said on X, formerly known as Twitter, that he was ‘very sorry’ for the trouble he caused and said his family planned to ‘donate some money’ to Billericay Town and the NHS for looking after him.
The supporter went viral after Hendon FC’s club secretary praised Billericay Town for the ‘superb way’ in which the club looked after Felix.
‘One of Hendon’s supporters was taken ill at the ground,’ Jeremy Lawrence posted. ‘A massive thank you to BTFC for the superb way in which they looked after him and dealt with the situation superbly.’
Replying to the post, Felix said in a thread which has been viewed almost 7 million times: ‘I can’t remember anything from about 2pm onwards yesterday.
‘I selfishly drank way too much and ended up unconscious apparently after falling over and throwing up 100s of times.
‘My family are going to donate some money to Billericay Town and the NHS for their absolute brilliance looking after me.
‘A massive thank you to all the Hendon and Billericay fans, Simon the steward, the ambulance crew, the nurses, my friends and my family for taking such good care of me.
‘I’m very sorry for everything and eternally grateful to all x’.
He said in another post: ‘The biggest thank you of all goes to my mate Will – probably put us both off drinking for life after that.
‘You had no right to stay 7 hours in Basildon hospital on your Saturday evening but you did just that. So f*****g grateful to you mate, I owe you a lot.’
X users were curious as to how the Hendon fan got into such a state.
Replying to one message asking how much he had, Felix wrote: ‘Think it was about 10-11 [pints] in the space of two hours, but on an empty stomach with no water.
‘I’m not the biggest f****r either. I think the five Guinness in an hour finished me off lad.’
Some users found the funny side of the story and praised Felix for ‘taking responsibility for his actions’.
‘We live and learn,’ one said. ‘Well done for taking responsibility for your actions. You’ve dealt with this perfectly.’
But others criticised the supporter for over-drinking and using valuable NHS resources.
Following some negative comments, he posted: ‘Done with twitter for a bit. All good but coming off it just to let it all settle down.
‘Hope all the middle-aged men giving abuse are happy about it all. Try to own up and do the good thing and get hounded for it. Will be back in a bit.’
Billericay Town won the game 1-0, sending them up to third in the Isthmian League Premier Division, five points and four places about seventh-placed Hendon.
