Alejandro Garnacho believes Cristian Romero is the best centre-back in the world after Tottenham beat Manchester United in the Europa League final on Wednesday night.

Romero was named Player of the Match for his display in Bilbao as Brennan Johnson’s first-half goal sealed a 1-0 victory for Spurs.

The Argentina international was also at the centre of a bust-up with Harry Maguire after the full-time whistle, with the United centre-back angrily confronting his opponent.

Garnacho, meanwhile, plays alongside Romero for Argentina’s national side and feels the 27-year-old should now be regarded as the world’s best central defender.

‘We know Cuti, he’s the best centre-back in the world,’ Garnacho told ESPN Argentina after United’s defeat in the Europa League final.

Romero, meanwhile, has attracted interest from both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid ahead of the summer transfer window.

He also sparked speculation over his future at Spurs last month by admitting that he is keen to play in La Liga before his playing career is over.

‘I can’t stop what is said outside about what will become of my future,’ Romero said when asked about his future after the final.

‘I always give everything for this club and I give my all to this shirt. I came with the mentality of winning, of making history, I wanted to leave my name engraved in Tottenham.

‘Now I’m going to celebrate with my family, who give me everything and I owe it to them.’
