Aldi issues urgent recall of popular Christmas gift over fears product could cause injury to shoppers

ALDI has issued an emergency recall for one of its most popular Christmas gifts after learning that the item could cause injury.

The major supermarket chain has had to recall two fragrances after they discovered that a fault in the packaging could cause the glass bottles to break.

Aldi immediately removed its Lacura Cozmo His and Lacura Cozmo Hers fragrances from every single one of their stores, and have also posted a product notice about the items on their website.

Their notice read: “Please note that the following Emergency Withdrawal and Public Product Recall has taken place.

“As a precautionary measure, our supplier is recalling this product due to a fault which may cause the glass bottle to break.”

They have urged customers to return the product to their nearest stores and have offered them a full refund.

Aldi has also said that you won’t need a receipt in order to receive a refund.

The supermarket has claimed that all of their products go through “rigorous safety and quality checks” before they are put on sale in their stores.

They have since said: “We apologise that this product did not meet our normal high standards and thank you for your co-operation.”

The fragrances were unveiled by Aldi’s health and beauty brand, Lacura, earlier this month.

They immediately became a favourite amongst Aldi shoppers – who hailed them for being “identical” to luxury perfumes made by Paco Rabanne.

With both fragrances being sold for just £6.99 each, those that purchased the product from Aldi were saving around £77.

When they were put on sale on December 10, Aldi even specified how much their shoppers would save compared to if they bought perfumes from the designer they duped.

They said: “Whether shoppers are looking to gift loved ones or are simply seeking a new signature scent for the festive season, these cruelty-free fragrances are guaranteed to be a sell-out, especially with savings of up to 94% compared to designer Paco Rabanne.”

This comes just after another festive favourite has had to be recalled.

The Food Standards Agency has warned that four types of cheeses might be contaminated with the Shiga toxin, that produces E.coli.

Mrs Kirkham’s Mild and Creamy Lancashire, Mrs Kirkham’s Tasty Lancashire, Mrs Kirkham’s Mature Lancashire and Mrs Kirkham’s Smoked Lancashire have all been recalled as a “precaution”.

There are fears that these were given in Christmas hampers.

The agency warned: “It may not always be clear whether you have purchased an affected product.”

People are advised to contact the shop where they purchased the cheese and if in doubt do not eat the cheese.

The FSA said: “Ensure the product is thoroughly wrapped and does not come into contact with any other foods.”

The agency added: “Wash your hands, equipment, utensils and surfaces that may have come into contact with the product thoroughly.”
