Ange Postecoglou says Micky van de Ven suffered a ‘significant’ injury during Tottenham’s loss to Chelsea.

But thankfully for Spurs and England, the injury that forced James Maddison off doesn’t sound too bad.

Amid the carnage of the Blues’ 4-1 win at nine-man Spurs on Monday night, the home side lost both Maddison and Van de Ven to injury at the end of the first-half.

The attacking midfielder fell first, going down untouched in the box and later limping off to be replaced by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.

At almost the same time, the centre-back pulled up clutching his hamstring as he raced Nicolas Jackson for the ball and was replaced by Eric Dier, with the out of favour star making his first appearance of the season.

Asked about the pair post-match, Postecoglou was couldn’t share much, saying of Maddison: ‘He got a knock on the ankle, we were down one man already.

‘It made sense to make a couple of changes at that point.’

But as for Van de Ven: ‘It’s too early. With Micky it’s a pretty significant one.’
