New details of what we should expect from next fall’s iPhone 16 series are already beginning to leak, including the dimensions and weight. Things can change—after all, we’re still 11 months until they’re announced—but the latest details give us a clue as to what to expect.
According to MacRumors, there will be subtle changes all round, and first suggestions are that your iPhone 15 case won’t fit. The new report doubles down on rumors that the display sizes are going up on the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Here’s the state of play just now.
Apple iPhone 16 And iPhone 16 Plus
The first thing to note is that the expectation is that there’ll be another Plus iPhone. Some reports claim that the 14 Plus didn’t hit big numbers, which made some think that Plus days could be limited. For now, it seems it’s part of the pack.
The report claims that the dimensions of the next iPhone and iPhone Plus will be identical to the current ones, though there’s a tiny change in weight predicted, an extra 2 grams on each. Display sizes won’t change from their current 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch measurements, which is hardly surprising if the dimensions of the phones stay the same. By the way, this likely means that the iPhone 16 and Plus won’t get the slimmer bezels introduced to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max.
Previous rumors have suggested the next phones could return to the vertical arrangement of cameras, as opposed to the diagonal placement on the iPhone 15. It’s also thought the next models may introduce the Action Button introduced last month on the iPhone 15 Pro.
Apple iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max
This is where the bigger changes will likely come. The displays will grow, it’s thought by around 0.2 inches, to 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches on the Pro and Pro Max respectively. Which must affect dimensions, right? Right. Here’s what the new data says.
The iPhone 16 Pro will be the same thickness as the current model, 8.25mm, which is fractionally thicker than the iPhone 14 Pro. The height will increase by 3mm, from 146.6mm to 149.6mm and the width from 70.6mm to 71.45mm, less than a millimeter. All of which will push the weight up by 7 grams, to 194g. That’s still 16g lighter than the iPhone 15 Pro, though.
It’s a similar story with the Max. The thickness is also the same as before, 8.25mm and the height goes up by 3.1mm, from 159.9mm to 163mm. Width is also up, from 76.7mm to 77.58mm. No surprise that the weight is to increase, though in this case only by 4g, to 225g, which is still 15g lighter than the iPhone 14 Pro Max.
What Can We Deduce?
The dimensions seem to be consistent with the idea that the displays are going to get bigger on the Pro iPhones next year. The weights suggest that titanium is staying on the Pro, and staying off the regular iPhones.
These seem like small clues, but they could be big pointers for what’s ahead.
