The report in MacGeneration suggests that Apple might take off the SIM card tray from iPhones that will be sold in France this year. If Apple does decide to remove the SIM card tray from iPhones selling in France, then it is possible that the tech giant might take it off in other countries in Europe as well.
In September 2022, Apple removed the SIM card tray from the iPhone 14 models being sold in the US. If the Cupertino-based tech giant does take off the SIM card tray from the upcoming iPhone 15 line-up, then Apple users will have no other choice but to switch to eSIM, a digital SIM that allows users to activate a cellular plan without having to use a physical SIM card.
During the launch of the iPhone 14 series, Apple promoted the usage of eSIMs as a “more secure” option when compared to the physical SIM since they can be stolen or destroyed.
Apple allows the iPhone 13 and newer models to operate two eSIMs at the same time.
As of now, we do not know if Apple will take out SIM card tray from smartphones in the iPhone 15 series for the Indian market.
In India, Reliance Jio offers the eSIM service. “With eSIM Carrier Activation, your carrier can assign an eSIM to your iPhone digitally at the time of purchase, or if you call your carrier for an eSIM after setup,” Apple said.
