Apple on Wednesday announced a new first-party app — Apple Sports — to cater to sports fans. The free app is available for iPhones running on iOS 17.2 or newer versions and offers real-time scores and stats for various leagues and tournaments such as the NBA, Premier League, MLS, and more.
The Apple Sports app is currently available in the US, the UK, and Canada. According to the company, Apple Sports app has been designed for “speed and simplicity,” and it also comes with an easy-to-use interface, with the app being around 17 MB in size.
“We created Apple Sports to give sports fans what they want — an app that delivers incredibly fast access to scores and stats,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of services.
The app has a simple UI with details like live stats and also allows users to manage their favourite teams and leagues in one place. It has an age restriction of 4+ years and supports English, French, and Spanish. Users can also customize scoreboards, and there is also a provision to navigate between ongoing and upcoming games.
Apple TV users can quickly switch to watching the live game with just a tap, and the favourites selected can also sync with the Apple TV app and Apple News to offer relevant recommendations. Apple also recently introduced MLS Season Pass for Apple TV+ users in select markets, and over the years, the company has collaborated with a lot of live sports events.
