Freeview users can finally treat themselves to Sky-style TV boost without spending a small fortune. A swathe of new set-top boxes have finally gone on sale at stores including Argos and Amazon with them offering a bunch of useful features that should make it easier to watch an evening of entertainment.
The latest Manhattan devices were actually first unveiled late last year and now, after months of waiting, you can actually buy them.
The more premium of these devices, called the Manhattan T4•R, is very similar to Sky Q with it offering full 4K Ultra HD playback and an internal hard disk that lets you record shows to watch later. You can even record two shows at once whilst watching a third plus there’s the option to pause live TV as well.
A TV guide is included which lets you look at what’s on now, next and even what has already been broadcast. If you spot something you’ve missed then on demand players will let you view things that are no longer on live channels.
If that sounds too expensive then you can opt for the more basic T4 instead. This box doesn’t offer recordings but it will let you tune into over 100 channels for free plus you can pause live telly for up to 90 minutes.
It also gets a fast processor, a full TV guide and an easy way to view content via on-demand players.
It costs £69.99.
