Matteo Guendouzi is clearly still keeping an eye on the Premier League as he adopted the goal celebration made famous by Cole Palmer after scoring for Lazio in Serie A on Sunday.

The Frenchman made 82 appearances for Arsenal from 2018-20, initially looking really good but falling out of favour pretty quickly in north London.

He left on a permanent move to Marseille and has since made the switch to Lazio, where he made 46 appearances in his first season with the club last time around.

The 25-year-old opened his account for this campaign at Torino on Sunday afternoon in a dramatic game which Lazio eventually won 3-2.

The former Arsenal man stole a move from a current Chelsea star by producing the ‘cold’ celebration after his eighth minute goal.

Guendouzi was not the only player to do so on Sunday as Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers also found the back of the net and rubbed his arms as if he was feeling a chill.

It was actually Rogers who first did the goal celebration and Palmer followed, as the England international stated last season.

Explaining his now signature move, Palmer said last year: ‘My boy Morgs did one for Middlesbrough, so I told him I’d do it too if I scored.’

Rogers was at Manchester City from 2019-23, where he played alongside Palmer.

Palmer showed off the celebration on Saturday as he scored all four goals in Chelsea’s 4-2 victory over Brighton at Stamford Bridge.

That took his tally to six in six league games so far this season and a remarkable 28 in 39 Premier League outings since arriving from Manchester City.

Former Arsenal forward Theo Walcott has been very impressed with Palmer at Chelsea, comparing him to some iconic figures from the Gunners’ history.

‘He has got a bit of finesse, Bergkamp, Van Persie about him, and they weren’t bad at all,’ Walcott said of Palmer.

‘He has grown into his own at Chelsea and he is the main man.”You can’t leave him out of any team, and I am talking about England too.

‘He is so gifted, he will have that awe around him so that players are afraid of him. If he continues like this, he going to be a legend of the Premier League.’
