Erik ten Hag is keen for United to recruit a new central striker before the end of the month and Choupo-Moting is among the players on the club’s shortlist.
The 34-year-old, who is not part of Cameroon’s squad for the Africa Cup of Nations, has struggled for playing time this season at Bayern, starting just three games in the Bundesliga and none in the Champions League.
The arrival of Harry Kane last summer has hindered Choupo-Moting’s chances of securing a regular role at Bayern even further this season.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Choupo-Moting would be keen on joining United, however, the Premier League club may struggle to convince Bayern to part ways with the player, given his impact off the bench.
‘I’m also hearing that at Bayern Munich they’re very happy with him because he’s been super professional every time they needed him, he’s always been on point and always been available in the best conditions,’ Romano told GiveMeSport.
‘Bayern would like to keep him, even though they have Harry Kane, because Mathys Tel is very young, he’s doing fantastic but he’s very young.’
Bayern signed Choupo-Moting on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain in October 2020 and has helped the German club win three Bundesliga titles.
The 34-year-old enjoyed the best season of his career last term, scoring 17 goals in 30 appearances across all competitions.
