As the battle of AI chatbots intensifies around the globe, India’s largest telecom service provider Reliance Jio Infocomm has revealed that it is working with the Indian Institute of Technology-Bombay to launch ‘Bharat GPT’, an AI-powered virtual assistant similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, PTI reported.
Akash Ambani, chairman of Reliance Jio Infocomm shared this development during a recent address at the institute’s annual Techfest. “We have been working on a project with IIT Bombay to launch the Bharat GPT programme,” he said.
Ambani highlighted the importance of establishing a strong development ecosystem and expressed the company’s dedication to bringing ‘Jio 2.0’ vision to life. The Bharat GPT initiative, in partnership with IIT Bombay since 2014, is focused on leveraging generative AI, inspired by extensive language models such as ChatGPT.
According to the report, Jio is looking to introduce AI at its enterprise and across sectors within the group. Large-language models and generative AI will define the next decade, he said. “We are working very hard to launch AI not only as a vertical inside our organization, but horizontally across all our sectors.”
In addition to the Bharat GPT program, Reliance Jio Infocomm also revealed that the company is working on developing its operating system (OS) for televisions. This operating system is expected to improve the user experience on Jio’s devices and contribute to the company’s ecosystem of services.
The report further revealed that Reliance Jio is committed to launching new products and services in various domains, including media, commerce, communication, and devices.
He also expressed excitement about the imminent launch of 5G private networks, wherein Jio plans to offer a 5G stack to enterprises of all sizes. Describing India as the “biggest innovation center” for the next decade, Ambani conveyed confidence in the country reaching a USD 6 trillion economy by the end of the decade.
