Broomfield is a county characterized by its rapid growth. Where and how do you hope to see continued growth in Broomfield? And what issues do you see arising as the city and county grow?
I hope to see equitable growth in Broomfield meaning that we ought to be able to accommodate people of a diverse range of socioeconomic backgrounds. Broomfield shouldn’t just be a home for the rich. I see supporting our current infrastructure being the main challenge with respect to growth. As we grow more dense, we need to ensure our sewage pipes, roads, and other amenities can handle the increased volume over time.
Affordable housing is a hot topic in Broomfield — where do you stand on the issue and how do you think the city and county should proceed?
I believe safe and dignified housing is a human right. I’m a strong supporter of our inclusionary housing ordinance which requires some income-aligned housing or cash in lieu for new developments. I also support denser development to generally increase housing supply. As a city, we need to push for affordable housing through ordinances and market conditions.
What issues do you hope to see come before the council in the near future?
I hope to see more issues surrounding sustainability come before council. I believe cities and counties have a key role to play in protecting our earth and ending the climate crisis. Within this specifically, I hope to navigate how we can push for more sustainable development and protect our open spaces.
