BUSINESS LIVE: BoE hikes base rate to 4.25%; Lloyd’s of London slumps to a loss; Investment banks Cenkos and finnCap to merge

The Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee has voted by a margin of 7-2 to hike the base rate by 25 basis points to 4.25 per cent.

The FTSE 100 is down 0.9 per cent in afternoon trading. Among the companies with reports and trading updates today are Lloyd’s of London, Cenkos, finnCap, Wickes, Playtech, Crest Nicholson and C&C Group. Read the Thursday 23 March Business Live blog below.
