Cal State Fullerton President Virjee announces retirement in July – The Press-Enterprise

Cal State Fullerton President Framroze “Fram” Virjee is retiring at the end of the school year, university officials announced Monday.

Virjee was appointed in March 2019 to lead the largest Cal State in the system after serving as interim president for more than a year. His last day will be July 31.

Virjee said he is retiring, along with his wife, to spend more time with family.

“This was an incredibly hard decision – I love CSUF and the Titan Family deeply, and as president over the past five years, I have dedicated my entire being to this great institution and the students, faculty, staff, and community we serve,” Virjee wrote in an email to the campus community welcoming people back the after winter break.

“Fram Virjee has been the epitome of a servant leader, displaying an infectious passion to improve opportunities for students,” Cal State University Interim Chancellor Jolene Koester said in a news release.

An interim president will be appointed while Cal State officials launch a nationwide search for Virjee’s successor.

Previous to this role, Virjee worked as executive vice chancellor and general counsel for the California State University system.

The first in his immigrant family to graduate from college, he “strongly identified with the CSU mission,” Koester wrote. “Throughout his presidency, he has been laser-focused on expanding access and success for students from all backgrounds.”

CUSF enrolls nearly 40,000 students.
