Canada shares higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.53%


Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the , and sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the added 0.53% to hit a new all time high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the were IAMGold Corporation (TSX:), which rose 16.57% or 1.17 points to trade at 8.23 at the close. First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX:) added 15.33% or 1.34 points to end at 10.08 and Pan American Silver Corp (TSX:) was up 10.53% or 3.21 points to 33.69 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Calibre Mining Corp (TSX:), which lost 3.94% or 0.11 points to trade at 2.68 in late trade. Bombardier Inc (TSX:) declined 3.86% or 4.26 points to end at 105.99 and Interfor Corp (TSX:) shed 2.63% or 0.54 points to 20.02.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 625 to 328 and 87 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

The , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 8.59% to 10.87.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.06% or 28.70 to $2,736.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 1.83% or 1.29 to hit $69.38 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 1.72% or 1.28 to trade at $73.17 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.08% to 0.72, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.43% to 0.67.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.35% at 103.29.
