It’s called the Community Action Ride System or “CARS” for short.
The effort hopes to provide free transportation opportunities for people who live in Jasper, Newton, Barton and McDonald counties.
“It’ll be volunteer drivers and we’ll reimburse those drivers at the federal mileage rate,” says Cavenaugh Studyvin of the Economic Security Corporation.
“They’ll be using their own vehicles but we’ll be partnering up initially with the United Way for some volunteers and later get assistance from other businesses and organizations,” she adds.
“We would love to have applications from volunteers,” Studyvin states.
To get information about volunteering, go to the ESC’s website.
Look up CARS under the services at the top right. A form is available from that page.
Studyvin says the CARS effort should be up and running sometime in May.
