Cecil G. Cordahl, 89, of Park Rapids, MN passed away on Thursday, November 23, 2023 at Heritage Living Center in Park Rapids.
Cecil Garfield Cordahl was born on June 19, 1934 in Hatton, ND to Christ and Clara Cordahl. He grew up in Hatton and graduated from Hatton High School. Cecil served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955 and graduated from Mayville State College in 1961. He married Shirley Thompson in 1957. Together they owned a Dairy Queen in Hatton where Cecil was Postmaster and coached baseball. They moved to Park Rapids, MN in 1969 and Cecil began teaching and coaching baseball and basketball in Akeley, MN. He was inducted into the Minnesota State High School Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 2017. Cecil was also an active volunteer in many organizations in Park Rapids including the Hubbard County DFL and Calvary Lutheran Church. He dedicated his life to Alcoholics Anonymous for 40 years and was instrumental in founding the annual Heartland RoundUp. Cecil enjoyed hunting and was an avid walleye fisherman.
Cecil is survived by his children Amber Cordahl, Marlene (Jay) Pike, Scott Cordahl, Jon Cordahl; grandchildren Nathan Pike, Jena Vogtman, Daniel Pike, Jessica Cordahl, Devin Cordahl; six great grandchildren; brothers Russell, Dennis, Ray, Cliff Cordahl and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and infant siblings Gerleen and Larry.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 11:00 am at Calvary Lutheran Church in Park Rapids, MN. Visitation will be held starting at 10:00 am at the church until time of services.
Cease Family Funeral Home of Park Rapids is assisting with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made in Cecil’s honor to Paul Bunyan Historical Society/Museum, Box 101, Akeley, MN 56433.
