Chelsea’s goalkeeping coach Henrique Hilario has handed in his resignation after being at the club for 18 years, according to reports.
Hilario has decided to swap Chelsea for the same role with England, where he is set to work under former Blues boss Thomas Tuchel.
It is thought that the 49-year-old was open to a job share but Chelsea were unhappy with that arrangement and will now look to replace Hilario.
That’s according to The Telegraph, who report that Hilario’s resignation has now been made official.
Hilario first arrived at Stamford Bridge in 2006 and the Portuguese ‘keeper stayed in west London until the end of his playing career in 2014.
After his retirement as a professional goalkeeper, he rejoined Chelsea in 2016 as an assistant goalkeeping coach under Antonio Conte.
Promoted to goalkeeping coach by Maurizio Sarri in 2018, Hilario is now expected to take up the same role with the England national team.
England are set for a new era, with Tuchel getting started at the country’s new permanent manager in January as he replaces Gareth Southgate.
‘I am very proud to have been given the honour of leading the England team,’ the German said in October.
‘I have long felt a personal connection to the game in this country, and it has given me some incredible moments already.
‘To have the chance to represent England is a huge privilege, and the opportunity to work with this special and talented group of players is very exciting.
‘Working closely with Anthony Barry as my assistant coach, we will do everything we can to make England successful and the supporters proud.
‘I want to thank the FA, in particular Mark and John, for their trust and I am looking forward to starting our journey together.’
