Chelsea players 'ask board to axe Mauricio Pochettino' as squad starts to turn on boss

Unrest appears to be growing behind the scenes at Stamford Bridge, with some Chelsea stars reportedly calling for Mauricio Pochettino to be replaced at the end of the season. The ex-Tottenham boss has struggled to spark his side into life, with the Blues’ issues epitomised when they failed to beat 10-man Burnley over the weekend.

Chelsea were handed the ideal opportunity to move into the top half of the Premier League on Saturday when Lorenz Assignon was shown a second yellow card after bringing down Mykhaylo Mudryk inside the penalty area. Cole Palmer coolly dispatched the resulting spot-kick but it was far from smooth sailing for Pochettino’s troops after the opener.

The Clarets hit back quickly after half-time though after a sensational volley from Josh Cullen nestled into the far corner before Palmer restored his side’s lead by finishing off a neat passing move in the 78th minute. Burnley, again, responded, with Dara O’Shea nodding home an equaliser just three minutes later.

The Blues trudged off the pitch to a chorus of boos at full-time, with fans unhappy with the performances they are watching on a weekly basis. However, it is not only supporters who appear to be annoyed with the direction that the club is going in.

According to HITC, some members of the Chelsea squad have ‘made it clear’ to the club’s ownership that they would favour a new manager being sat in the Stamford Bridge dugout next season.

Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali are aware of the unrest, with the Blues’ higher powers already assessing the available managerial options to replace Pochettino at the end of the season – though a decision has not been made over whether another sacking is required.
