If you ever find yourself plagued by the itchy bite marks left behind by mosqiutoes then you might find yourself wondering why the insects are drawn to you in particular.
Well, one dermatologist has revealed why the tiny bugs are more inclined to chomp on some of us more than others. And it seems the answer could be a little bit grim.
It turns out it isn’t that those of us more prone to mozzie bites smell good, nor is it something you might have eaten that day. It seems as though it all boils down to sweat, reports The Mirror.
Derm Guru, a certified dermatologist, shared on TikTok, the full reason why some people are more suspectible to the blood suckers than others. She said: “Mosquitoes are attracted to sweat and people who have a higher body temperature, and they’re particularly attracted to ammonia, uric acid, lactic acid – so people who exercise quite a bit are more likely to get bitten by mosquitoes.
“Another thing that can make you more susceptible to mosquito bites is drinking a beer. One study found that just drinking a 12-ounce can of beer can make you more attractive to mosquitoes. Finally, the type and the number of bacteria that live on your skin can make us more or less attractive to mosquitoes – and it also explains why we are more likely to get bitten on the ankles because there are more robust bacterial colonies in those areas.”
In a part two video, she also explained that the reason you may be getting bitten more could be your blood type, as mosquitoes are more attracted to blood type O. She also claimed: “Mosquitoes are attracted to carbon dioxide, so the heavier you breathe, the more attractive you’re going to be.

“People who are larger or more obese do tend to breathe more often and breathe more carbon dioxide, therefore are more attractive to mosquitoes.”
She also claimed that if you want to go under a mosquito’s radar, wear light clothing, as they’re more interested in dark garments. In the comments, one woman joked: “So I’m being punished for being a genetically sweaty b***h?” Another said: “I was born as a snack for mosquitoes.” “Please those who have the problem need a solution, at this point, I don’t care. I just want the problem resolved”, a TikToker fumed.
