Did not know what to make of the third Mrs. Trump and found myself “conflicted” by Melania, says Hillary Clinton in memoir

In her recently released memoir, Something Lost, Something Gained, Hillary Clinton talked about her emotions upon first encountering Melania Trump following the 2016 election defeat. The incident took place during Rosalynn Carter’s memorial service the previous year. Clinton talked about how Jason Carter had wanted all of the previous first ladies to attend the funeral together in an effort to demonstrate togetherness during these divisive times. Clinton said that neither the White House nor her Secret Service team had told her that Melania Trump would be there, as per the reports of Yahoo entertainment.

Melania’s awkward presence

Clinton recalled that when she and other former first ladies arrived, Melania Trump appeared isolated. Laura Bush, who had been speaking with Melania, stepped away to greet the others. Clinton noted that Melania looked “very smiley but uncertain,” resembling a shy child at a party who waits for others to be kind. Clinton and the others approached Melania with friendly gestures. Jill Biden gave her an air-kiss, Michelle Obama offered a warm hug, and Bill Clinton tried to make small talk. Clinton herself extended a handshake and greeted Melania.

Clinton’s reflections and conflicts

Clinton expressed mixed feelings about Melania Trump, stating she has always believed that a wife should not be held responsible for her husband’s actions. However, she questioned whether Melania had supported her husband’s less favorable traits. Clinton also referenced Melania’s controversial jacket from 2018, which bore the message, “I really don’t care. Do u?” Clinton noted that while she refrains from judging another woman’s appearance, the jacket seemed aligned with Donald Trump’s style.

Thoughts on the funeral attire

Clinton reflected on the criticism Melania received for not wearing traditional black attire at the funeral, opting instead for a gray coat. She defended Melania, pointing out that modern dress codes have shifted, and noted that others at the memorial, including President Biden and Jason Carter, did not face similar criticism for their attire. Clinton found it petty that Melania was criticized for this choice and expressed some sympathy, despite the Trump family’s actions during recent years. Also Read : Mickey 17: Robert Pattinson starrer sci-fi film’s release date, trailer, plot, cast and production
