EAST BRIDGEWATER — Two East Bridgewater police officers were honored for their efforts in helping to save one of their own in April.
Sgt. Dennis Andre and Officer Matthew Monteiro were recognized at the Select Board meeting on Monday, Aug. 12 and presented with Lifesaving Awards, Chief Michael Jenkins announced in a written statement Tuesday.
The awards were presented by Jenkins, Deputy Chief Michael McLaughlin and Select Board members David Sheedy, Carole Julius and Peter Spagone Jr.
Also in attendance was Larry Davidson, whose life was saved by the officers, and his wife Florence, as well as family, friends and other police officers.
“To say that I am proud of these officers is an understatement,” Jenkins said. “They did an excellent job performing the proper emergency procedures in a fast-paced manner. That requires an immense amount of bravery and professionalism, we are very lucky to have them as part of the EBPD.”

What happened on night officers saved a life?
East Bridgewater Police dispatch received a 911 call at 12:52 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2 from a resident who said “her husband, who has heart issues, was unconscious and unresponsive,” the chief said.
Andre and Monteiro were dispatched to the home and upon arrival, they were directed toward Larry Davidson, a retired East Bridgewater police sergeant “who was unresponsive and was not breathing,” Jenkins said. The officers began CPR and administered a shock via a defibrillator.
“Davidson began breathing again as paramedics arrived and continued critical care and transport to the hospital,” the chief said.

Andre and Officer Monteiro received medals for their heroic efforts, the chief said.
