Enterprise Community College Golf Team is heading to the national championship – WTVY

ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WTVY) – After a season of uncertainty, the Boll Weevil Golf Team has a chance to etch their name in history.

“The journey of making it and being able to experience it next week, is going to be the thrill of a lifetime,” said freshman Nicklaus Cook.

Cook beat out three players in a playoff at the district tournament. Making birdie in the second round, he punched the Boll Weevil’s ticket to nationals.

“That was awesome,” said Cook. “When I made that putt, it didn’t hit me yet. Then I saw my guys coming at me with a bottle of water. They drenched me.”

That moment with his teammates meant the world to Cook.

“Spending that fellowship with them, that is something we never get back,” said Cook. “You will always remember those memories and I’m so proud to be a part of this team.”

They had a chip on their shoulder since the beginning, wanting to prove the doubters wrong.

“We were always counted out,” said Cook. “They never thought that Enterprise could go to nationals cause there was always teams better than us.”

The Boll Weevil’s were overlooked all season. But now they have gone from underdog to top dog.

The team has had their eyes on the prize since the beginning.

“It’s something that we’ve been looking forward to since day one,” said Caden Fockler. “We knew that we could do something special this season.”

As they look ahead, they know nationals will be a challenge.

“It’s going to be tough,” said Cook. “These teams are top of their game.”

But there is one thing that will give them the edge.

“I would say by far between all the teams we easily have the best team chemistry,” said Fockler. “From the first week until now we really built a special bond.”

The team is excited to represent Enterprise on the biggest stage.

“Knowing that you’re in a little town called Enterprise, Alabama. There’s not much recognition here,” said Cook. “It’s really awesome to put Enterprise on the map so people know we have good golfers.”

The golf team heads to New Mexico next week and will compete for the national title on May 14.
