(Reuters) – Estonia has launched an investigation into the malfunction of communications cable connecting it to Finland under the Baltic Sea, Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas said in a statement late on Tuesday.
Following the damage of a cable and a nearby pipeline, in what Finland said may have been a deliberate act, on Tuesday Kallas spoke on the phone to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and the European Council President Charles Michel.
“We discussed the need and opportunities to increase the protection of critical infrastructure in the Baltic Sea,” she said in the statement.
