India’s mobile data pricing is amongst the lowest in the world even after the recent round of industry-wide headline rate hikes. Data prices in the country are well below those of the US, Japan, UK, Brazil and China.
Low data rates, in turn, have sharply boosted data usage levels over the years with India’s average monthly data usage (AMDU) per subscriber having more than doubled to almost 26 GB in Q1FY25 from 11 GB in Q2FY20.
Analysts expect India’s AMDU growth trajectory to sustain over the next three-five years amid a gradual pick-up in 5G penetration as new use-cases are developed and 5G smartphones become more affordable.
