The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office is urging online shoppers to be careful, specifically on one website.
The department has reported that they have been made aware of multiple instances of fraud involving Facebook Marketplace.
They specifically note “advertisements targeting individuals looking for rental properties in our area.”
Shoppers are encouraged to never send payments electronically to people you don’t know, or have not been vetted as legitimate landlords.
