Fact Check: Old Apple Barn in New Mexico still open, new owner says – El Paso Times

The owners of the Old Apple Barn on Highway 82, between Alamogordo and Cloudcroft, want to make sure El Pasoans know they are open.

Visitors have recently walked into the store and have been surprised it’s open.

“Half of our customers are from El Paso and people keep telling us they heard our store is closing,” said Jerry Shulman, who is the owner.

Shulman said he recently bought the long-time store, but nothing has changed.

The store is a two-story building with hundreds of items for sales from old time toys, and souvenirs to T-shirts, jewelry and household items.

However, some of the most popular items are those made in the kitchen from scratch, he said.

“Our cherry cider is made fresh every day. And people will drive from Roswell, El Paso and Odessa to come get it,” Shulman said.

Other popular food items include fudge, sold in quarter-pound blocks and made in 20 different varieties, and cherry, pecan, and peach pies, sold by the slice or whole. Customers can also get ice cream cones, put ice cream on a slice of pie, or enjoy old-fashioned Root Beer floats or cream soda from the old-fashioned soda fountain.

The store is open 365 days a year. Open daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Shulman is excited to announce he is opening a discount store loaded with camping-related items on July 4. The store will be the Old Apple Barn Antique Emporium and Camping Maxx. He plans to have expanded hours of 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. that four-day weekend.
