Fidayeen attack on Independence Day: 150 AI cameras, 700 CCTVs and other tech security forces are using to secure Red Fort – The Times of India

Ahead of the Independence Day celebrations, Delhi is on high alert following intelligence inputs that one or two operatives from a terrorist group may attempt a fidayeen attack in Delhi or Punjab. The security forces have been put on heightened vigilance to thwart any attempts by terrorist groups to disrupt the event. The national capital is implementing a multi-layered security approach, including the deployment of advanced AI-powered surveillance systems and real-time monitoring around the Red Fort from where Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the nation.

Here’s how security forces are preparing to technology to secure Red Fort

AI-based cameras: The security forces will strategically deploy over 700 CCTV cameras, including 150 with advanced video analytics capabilities around the Red Fort. These cameras will be used for crowd estimation, facial recognition, audio detection, intrusion detection and to spot missing or abandoned objects.
Real-time face recognition: On the grounds of the Red Fort, there will be a control centre that will help the security personnel to watch the live stream from these cameras. The security infrastructure includes advanced facial recognition technology capable of analysing both live and recorded video feeds.
According to reports, the system can identify individuals by comparing faces to a “Watch List” database in real-time, triggering alerts when a match is found. Moreover, the technology can detect multiple faces within a single frame and even cross-reference individuals across different camera feeds.
As per the police, the AI-based CCTV cameras will have high-resolution pan-tilt-zoom features, allowing them to identify anyone from a distance.
Smartphone app to confirm attendees’ identities: News agency PTI cited an officer as saying that the police will use a smartphone app to confirm the identities of those who are attending the event at Red Fort.
Number Plate Recognition (NPR) technology: The NPR will be used to scan vehicle licence plates. The technology will automatically detect and record the number, which will then be used to send alerts for violations.
