Wales firm Redkite Solicitors has pledged to keep its beloved late colleague’s legacy alive with a series of lasting tributes.
Natasha Cox died in February this year aged 36, just four days after fulfilling her dream of being admitted as a solicitor. Her firm described Natasha, from Pembrokeshire, as ‘the kindest soul with the biggest heart and an inspiration to everyone she worked with’.
Determined to make a lasting legacy, former colleagues have now established permanent changes to remember Natasha and mark the issues that mattered most to her.
Redkite has set up an educational trust fund in her name to provide mentoring and financial support to those from less privileged backgrounds who wish to study law.
The firm has also make all of its offices dog friendly in recognition of her love for dogs and in particular her retriever Maggie. Tash’s treats will be available from Redkite offices for any dogs coming into the firm.
An event was held earlier this year bringing together Natasha’s family and her colleagues, where they shared stories of how she improved the lives of those who worked with her.
This weekend, 30 Redkite staff will be taking on the Gower Peninsula Mighty Hike in her memory and to raise money for MacMillan Nurses. The firm has pledged to raise £7,000 and donations can be made here.
For the first time, Redkite has revealed thoughts recorded by Natasha towards the end of her life on what she had learnt during her cancer illness.
She wrote: ‘When you feel like it’s too difficult to cope, you have to remind yourself how beautiful the world is and that your life is the most precious thing that you own. It really doesn’t need to be threatened for you to realise that.
‘When days seem hard, tell someone how you feel about yourself and them. Tell them that you love them and that you care. I’m not saying that because I am suggesting that it might be their last days but because they might need to hear it. Every day has a positive; it is important that you find it. Whatever the situation that grinds you down, just remember it will eventually pass.’
Natasha’s story touched so many people to the extent that a Gofundme page set up for her treatment and to support her family raised more than £84,000.
An employment specialist, her firm said that despite her cancer diagnosis she remained a ‘beacon of positivity and warmth, and showed unwavering dedication to her work’.
Natasha joined Redkite as a legal adviser in 2015 after completing a degree in criminology and social policy at Loughborough University and later a Graduate Diploma in Law. She enjoyed keeping fit, long walks with her husband and dog, running half marathons and playing competitive hockey.
