Flight disruptions reported as Indian airports continue to be affected by Friday's Microsoft outage

Indian airports saw flights being delayed on Saturday after the global tech outage on Friday caused by an update to Microsoft’s cloud services. Despite reports that the outage had been resolved, issues seem to persist at the country’s Delhi and Chennai aiports.

“I am travelling to London and my flight is delayed by half an hour at least. There is a long queue outside the airport. Most of the flights are delayed…,” a passenger at Delhi’s international airport told ANI.

Reports from Chennai also said that there were disruptions to flights, with one passenger unable to fly back to Sri Lanka, saying “I was to go to Bhubaneshwar to give a lecture, but yesterday night my flight got cancelled. Then today morning, I couldn’t find a flight back to Bhubaneshwar. So I’m going back to Sri Lanka, but now I cannot get a flight, so I’m stuck here…”

Airlines, including Indigo, Akasa Air, Vistara, Air India and SpiceJet, posted messages on X saying they were facing issues on Friday. New Delhi airport said it too faced some IT issues and some services were temporarily affected. Union Minister of Civil Aviation Rammohan Naidu on Friday assured travellers that the ministry and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) are managing the situation with manual methods to minimise disruption.

Later in the day, most airports and airlines reported that issues from the widespread outage had been resolved, with operations restored.
